That’s not in Melbourne, you say.
Yes, the Melbourne Food Snob has finally started going to places outside the inner Eastern suburbs. What better place to start than the other side of the country?
The menu was eerily similar to that of its eastern counterpart. I wanted something simple for lunch so I went for the steak sandwich.
The panini-like bun was burnt in some places. The steak was cooked to my liking but there wasn’t really enough of it. The beetroot relish was nice but it had an overpowering cumin flavour. The accompanying chips were ok but they could have done with some seasoning (herbs, chicken salt… anything really). It would also have been nice if there was something other than tomato sauce available to go with them. Overall the meal wasn’t too bad but it was fairly forgettable. At $21 it was pretty pricey, considering it was just a lot of over-toasted bread and a little piece of steak with some iceberg lettuce and tomato. Really, what is a steak sandwich without cheese and caramelised onions?
The Little Creatures Brewery would be a great place to hang out, especially in summer as there is a nice outdoor area looking out over the water. I am a massive fan of Little Creatures pale ale and Pipsqueak cider so I would definitely recommend it for a drink if you live in the area. Sadly, the food wasn’t really up to scratch. I know I only had one item from the menu but the experience was very similar to that of the Melbourne dining hall so I feel pretty safe in saying that.
